Glen Urquhart: Local Place Plan

Case StudiesCommunity (& Stakeholder) EngagementStrategy & Development

This Local Place Plan identifies priorities and actions to help make Glen Urquhart a sustainable, liveable and productive place.

Local Place Plan: Work undertaken

SKS worked with Glen Urquhart Community Council, Glen Urquhart Rural Community Association, local stakeholders, and agencies to develop the Glen Urquhart Local Place Plan (LPP). Key steps included:

  • Research and Data Collection. SKS reviewed and consolidated essential background information, including the Glen Urquhart Community Action Plan and the Housing Needs Survey, to ensure that the LPP was grounded in the community’s needs and aspirations.
  • Extensive Community Consultation. A wide-reaching consultation process was implemented to gather input from all sections of the community. This included a detailed survey, school project facilitation, mapping workshops, and stakeholder interviews. These diverse methods ensured high participation and inclusive feedback.
  • Priorities and Mapping Workshop. We guided the community through the process of prioritising actions from the survey (impact and ease of delivery) and marking these outcomes on a map. These sessions were held online and in person.
  • Detailed Maps. SKS worked with John Gilbert Architects to create detailed maps that visually represented the community’s needs, ambitions, and priorities. These maps provided a clear outline of the community’s input into The Highland Council Local Development Plans.
  • Draft Local Place Plan and Action Plan. This was shared with the local community, neighbouring community councils, and local councillors for further input and refining.
  • Glen Urquhart’s Local Place Plan. The plan reflected the community’s priorities and adhered to The Highland Council’s guidelines, giving the community more control and influence about what happens in Glen Urquhart.
