Business Planning, Evaluation Framework and Research Methods
Archaeology Scotland commissioned SKS Scotland to provide support across two areas: business planning services, and evaluation planning support, as part of the NHLF supported project ‘Archaeology – Unearthing a Better Future’ project. This project is designed to build greater resilience for Archaeology Scotland, its membership and the wider heritage sector through organisational improvements and business planning processes, together which will support development of increased public benefit of the work delivered by the organisation.
The planning and development of these two new programmes contributed to several key strategic outcomes for the organisation:
- Archaeology Scotland will have a wider range of revenue streams, which increases income, helps develop reserves and contributes to organisational resilience.
- A greater number and wider range of people will benefit from these services, through participation in archaeology and archaeological heritage.
- Archaeology Scotland will more effectively deliver to the range of strategic frameworks it partners on such Scotland’s Archaeology Strategy and the Our Place Our Future Scotland’s Historic Environment Strategy.
We worked with the Archaeology Scotland Team to co-create and evaluation framework to capture and showcase the outputs and outcomes from their community engagement and learning programmes. This was supported by the co-design of a ‘How To’ Guide for staff, to increase their capacity, skills and knowledge to undertake a range of social science research methods to enable them to carry out robust impact evaluation across all programme areas.
