SKS was commissioned by Islay Energy Trust to carry out a community consultation on the investment strategy for funds generated from a proposed wind turbine.
As part of the Islay Wind Turbine Project, a national grid upgrade is required. It is hoped that the Big Lottery Fund will support this project and to complete the application for funding, IET had to show evidence of community need and a clear plan for the distribution of the income.
SKS consulted with a wide variety of organisations, businesses and individuals to find out what the community felt it needed to build strength and resilience. Meetings were held across the island, facilitated by SKS and advertised both online using social media and offline using the local press. An online survey was also carried out to maximise the channels available for feedback.
The results of the consultation have been used in the lottery application investment strategy for fund generated from the proposed wind turbine, and Islay has gone on to propose the formation of the Islay Energy Community Benefit Society (IECBS).
